Kids Book Review is delighted to announce its inaugural Picture Book Award for an unpublished manuscript!
There are two categories in this Award:
Published Writer*
Unpublished Writer
*A published writer is someone who has had at least one
published book on the market (published or
self-published). For the purposes of this competition, we delineate a 'published' author as someone whose books are available in bookstores, Australia-wide.
One winner in each
category will win $150 and a full manuscript appraisal. They will also be
interviewed on Kids Book Review, which has a worldwide audience.
Three other winners
in each category will be highly commended and will win a short manuscript
appraisal.
Manuscript submissions should be for picture books of 500 words or less. Illustrations are not required.

How to Submit

Submissions open Monday
3 October and close Monday 14 November at 11.59pm. Winners will be assessed by the KBR
team and announced on Monday 28 November. The competition is open to Australian entrants
only, over the age of 18.
Cost of entry is $15 per manuscript. Cheques are payable to
Tania McCartney, Kids Book Review, PO Box 1753, Woden ACT 2606. If you prefer
to pay by paypal or make a direct deposit, please email taniaATkids-bookreviewDOTcom for
details. Emails post-marked later than Monday 14 November will not be
considered. Once payment has been received, you will receive a notification of
receipt email confirming your manuscript has been entered into the competition.
Please do not post your submission – we ask for emailed
submissions only.
Entries should be emailed as an attached Word document to taniaATkids-bookreviewDOTcom with KBR
PB Award in the subject line. Be sure to indicate in your email if you
are a published or unpublished author.
Please double space your submission, number the pages and
provide your name, address, email and telephone number on the opening page.
Please keep the text simple, use Arial or Times New Roman 11 point, and don’t
add visuals or embellishments.
Please do not provide a synopsis, CV, market
analysis, title page nor any other material – manuscript only. Succinct
illustration notes (in brackets) are fine. Please do not send artwork.
Entrants are welcome to enter more than one manuscript,
though a fee of $15 applies per manuscript.
