Review: It Wasn't Me!

The Hueys are back in Oliver Jeffers' second picture book instalment of this kooky little community.

Now, the thing about the Hueys, is that they usually get along. But sometimes they don't.

And when they don't, things can go awfully pear-shaped.
One particular day, when things are going pear-shaped, Gillespie comes along and asks why the Hueys are fighting.

Of course, as most are wont to do, the blame game starts - "He started it!" "It wasn't me!" "It wasn't me!"

Gillespie, keen to get to the heart of the matter, yet again asks what on earth they are fighting about. After pausing and thinking about it awhile, the combatants realise they don't really know.

This is a very simple plot with a thoughtful message and quirky ending that Jeffers does so well. I have to admit it's not my favourite Jeffers book but it's nonetheless a joy to look at (even with such simplistic illustration, the heart continues to race) and I do adore an ending with a good dose of quirk.
