Review: The Bouncing Ball

A small boy finds a small ball. He picks it up, plays with it, has fun and then fumbles, sending the ball rolling away on a journey to the next small child.

This simply told story conveys a sense of the bigger world to young readers as the bouncing ball travels across streets, suburbs and oceans to find another young child who will enjoy playing with it.

The bright, eye-catching illustrations add to the sense of fun and the gentle repetition of the story pattern will draw young readers into the narrative, helping them to predict what will happen next and build anticipation to the final page.

Debut author Deborah Kelly and illustrator Georgia Perry have created an engaging, fun story ideal for stirring the imagination of young readers. The slightly smaller format (19 x 24 cm) is also ideal for little hands.

There are teachers’ notes available for The Bouncing Ball, focusing on English and visual literacy skills for preschool and kindergarten-aged children. Read our account of The Bouncing Ball book launch here.
