12 Curly Questions with author Alison Reynolds

1.Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I can touch my nose with my tongue (a very useful thing to do).

2. What is your nickname?
I don’t have one. My mother always made my friends call me by my full name and it stuck.

3. What is your greatest fear?
Curly questions and snakes.

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
I think lots, write fast and then edit, edit, edit.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Imaginative, eclectic, succinct, funny and adaptable

6. What book character would you be, and why?
Tintin –  I like adventures,  standing up for what  is right, and I have a cute small dog.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
Very hard to pick just one period.  But I would really like to travel back to when Stonehenge was built, and discover what its purpose is. I would also like to go back to Tudor England, but only if my head stayed attached to my neck. And I’m fascinated with the period between WW1 and WW2.

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?

You’re taller!

9. Who is your greatest influence?
My dad. He shared his love of words with me by filling the house with books and  reading to me every night.

10. What/who made you start writing?
My great aunt, Gertrude Sarah, used to make me books when I was about four, by cutting butcher’s paper into pages and sewing up the spine. She didn’t know what she started!

11. What is your favourite word and why?

Serendipity – I’ve always liked the way it rolls off your tongue. It means happy accident or pleasant surprise and I am very pro both of these!

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Too hard, and it changes daily. Maybe the complete works of William Shakespeare. All the great plots are there.
