Review: Girlish

Empowering, inspiring and informative, Girlish is a book every young girl needs to read.

It’s basically a personal workbook about what it means to be a girl.

Filled to the brim with advice, quotes, truth bombs and facts, it teaches girls about feminism, amazing women throughout history and how to fight for your beliefs.

I loved this book. I would actually say it’s essential reading for all women, not just teenage girls, as it contains so much important information about strong females in history.

But, first and foremost, Girlish has been written and designed for teens, and its delivery is spot on.

All the information is really easy to understand and follow, and the issues the book explores are ones teenagers are dealing with right now: body image, social media, friendships, school.

It also looks cool. With loads of colour, pictures, sparkles and patterns, it’s the kind of book you want to open repeatedly and touch all the pages.

And it's also not just words to read and absorb.

Scattered throughout Girlish are pages set aside for personal reflection. Prompts are included to get readers thinking about their own views and opinions, so it’s also like a diary of personal thoughts.

It’s something you can come back to time and time again to remind yourself about what you believe in, what you want to fight for and what your dreams are.

Girlish would make a wonderful gift for so many occasions, including Christmas, birthdays, graduation or just because. Powerful and inspiring, it will show young girls how to reach for the stars.
