Review: Look, See, Find Me

Look, See, Find Me is a fun, activity-based picture book.

This is a nature hide-and-seek, with double page spreads hiding animals. They're camouflaged in their surroundings -- leaves, trees, ground cover.

Illustrations are the centrepiece of Look, See, Find Me, and they're diverse and detailed, bright and beautiful.

Readers are encouraged to spot a variety of creatures.

Can you find the great green bush cricket and European mantis who blend in with a branch full of bright green leaves?

What about the goldenrod crab spider who looks just like the yellow blossoms? Or the frogs amidst the browning leaf litter on the ground?

These are not all the animals you might expect. And they're not only land creatures. Coral seascapes hide pygmy seahorses, and a cuttlefish hides on the sea bed.

There are a couple of animals on each double page spread. Readers are prompted to look for them by a rhyming sentence, and the animal names, both common and scientific, are listed as well.

At the end of the book, the camouflaged creatures are introduced without their camouflage through a picture and information about each of them. An explanation of camouflage and a glossary are also useful.

In Look, See, Find Me, Sandra Severgnini has created an interactive, exploratory journey that will engage readers in its pages and the world around them.
