Review: Howl-o-ween: Come Trick or Treat On Spooky Street

It’s Halloween on Spooky Street, and the humans are not the only ones dressing up to trick or treat.

Come along as the playful pups and their owners visit each house in this fun and adventurous picture book by award winning creators Emma Bowd and Lara Porter.

Emma’s lively, rhyming text is a joy to read aloud and would be perfect for a group Storytime, as well as bedtime. The story moves from one house to the next with dynamic verbs and clever alliteration.

Lara’s illustrations are bright and playful, perfectly capturing the excitement and energy of the evening. There are lots of details for readers to discover on each spread, and beautiful individuality in all the children.

Dog lovers will enjoy spotting the different breeds like the Kooky Cavoodle at Number 9, and the Fearsome Frenchie at Number 8.

The front endpapers include a daytime map of Spooky Street, showing which pup lives at each house. The back endpapers are a ghostlier version, complete with bats, skeletons and spiders.

At the end of the noisy night, there is one house left…

Will they be brave enough to visit Number 3, where the BIGGEST BEAST on Spooky Street lives?
