NEW TEAM MEMBER: Louise Brooks

KBR welcomes new team member, Louise Brooks! What better way to get to know Louise than with our infamous 12 Curly Questions.

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I attended 6 schools - one ‘suggested’ I leave (through no fault of my own).

2. What is your nickname?
Flo - given to me by my brother.

3. What is your greatest fear?
Dying - it seems so final!

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
Often attempts humour, distiller to the point of overthinking, verbose.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a reviewer.
Fun, thoughtful, positive, supportive, awe-filled.

6. What book character would you be, and why?
Judy/Helen (JuJu) from The Seven Little Australians. Seen as rebellious when a teenager, mischievous, fiercely loyal, family orientated.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
I’d like to go back to when I became a mother for the first time. I was so stressed (still am!) and did not get to enjoy those beautiful moments, as worry overtook me.

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
Not surprised you became a librarian since you drove your family mad constantly rearranging the bookcase and demanding alphabetical order

9. Who is your greatest influence?
My Dad - he believed in me in everything I did - sport, school, family. He really championed me to go as far as I could with my education, and to reach for the stars.

10. What/who made you start reviewing?
I was asked! I wondered, 'Why me?’ then decided to take a leap of faith.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
Circuitous - a funny sounding word that seems to sum me up beautifully. Too many thoughts in my head, but I usually get there.

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Toss up between Wild Swans by Jung Chang (love Chinese history) or The Tontine by Thomas Costain - the first epically long saga that I read - and was mesmerised by the intricate storyline.
