Review: A Bit Lost

If the gorgeous illustrations aren't enough to draw you in (what’s not to love about that owl?) . . . this sweet story about a little owlet who falls from his perch will certainly make you smile.

Gotta love a picture book that begins with ‘oh-oh! bump bump bump’… but what you’ve got to love even more are the consistent and very clever parallels between how a young owlet sees the world (as opposed to how everyone else sees it).

When Little Owl falls from the nest – he realizes he’s lost his mummy. A skittishly pink passing squirrel asks if he can help Owl find his mummy. But what does she look like?

“My mummy is very big,” says Owl, and squirrel knows exactly where to find a big mummy.

It’s a bear.

“No! No!” says Little Owl before indicating his mummy has pointy ears. So squirrel leads him to a rabbit.

“No! No!” says Little Owl. His mummy has big eyes.

Like a frog?

Can squirrel really help Owl find his mummy? With a warm and delightful ending, this gorgeous book finds its strength in a simple but timeless concept, then slam dunks it with strikingly beautiful block-print style images.

Scrumptious.
