Describe your illustration style in ten words or less.

Refined, gentle, flowing, moody, delicate, muted, painterly, textured

What items are an essential part of your creative space?
I need sound in the background, because silence makes me feel lonely. Either music or a
sitcom show (usually Friends). Tea or coffee is a must, and loose-fitting clothes. To start
working, I need paper, a sharp 2B pencil and sharpener, along with the medium that I will be
using, usually its watercolour or acrylic. My studio has lots of posters and paintings on the
walls, and cute little ornaments/ figurines to help with inspiration.

Just like so many other young Australian men, Alfred enlists to serve in World War I for adventure and travel.

A young indigenous man, with no citizenship rights in his own country, Alfred finds comradeship and equality in the army.

He returns to Australia injured and finds a country still unable to embrace civil rights, or even honour his sacrifice.

The Wilderness Society’s annual celebration of Australia’s finest children’s nature authors, The Environment Award for Children’s Literature , has announced the 13 books that have made the 2021 shortlist, from 100 entries.

Every year, the Wilderness Society shortlists the best children’s nature books, before a panel of judges crowns a winner for three categories: Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Picture Fiction. The award showcases and celebrates some of the best writers and illustrators working in children’s literature.
