Review: Boris Sees the Light / Ready Set Boris

I just adore this little warthog. He’s such a sweetie pie and these attractive books by the talented Andrew Joyner are in a format I adore – because they are so so readable and so much fun.

Sorted into brief chapters, the Boris series is a perfect first chapter book for young readers moving on from picture books. The text is broken up with plenty of wonderful, full colour illustrations and speech bubbles, giving the books a lovely cross between readers and comics.

Funny, emotive and super cute illustrations perfectly complement the text and give the books a clean, fresh feel. Storylines have a relationship focus and kids will love cheering along Boris.

At the back of each book, the author treats us to a little extra, with story-related activities and ideas. In Boris Sees the Light, kids can make their own shadow portraits, and in Ready Set Boris, they are set up their own obstacle course at home.

A lovely series to encourage kids to enjoy reading.
