Review: The Adventures of Napoleon and Josephine

The lives of Napoleon and Josephine have long been explored in the annuls of history, and now their tale has been revealed in this stunning new picture book released by the National Gallery of Victoria.

This glossy-page book is resplendent with exquisite paintings from prominent artists, cleverly combined with a chronological commentary by Phip Murray, perfectly suited to younger children.

Its pages are also splashed with interesting facts and figures, totally cute speech bubbles, coloured typeface, cartoons and even a French phrase or two.

Fascinating for its historical content but also for its beauty, this is delectable tome makes history more than approachable and more than fascinating for kids aged 8+.

Gorgeous.

The Adventures of Napoleon and Josephine has been published to coincide with the exhibitions Napoleon: Revolution to Empire, showing at the National Gallery of Victoria until 7 October, and An Excellent Adventure at NGV Kids Space until 3 February 2013. See the NVG website for more.
