Review: Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap Pets

I just adore flip flap books. The combinations are so much fun!

What better way to discover 11 different pets than to read and play with Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap Pets book. When you read each page without mixing up the animal flaps you find out information about each pet's appearance, likes, sounds and other facts. The pet types range from the common family pet dog and cat to unusual pets like reptiles and insects.

But most of the fun that this book gives, is when the children flip the flaps that are divided into each pet's top and bottom half. As readers flip the pages they can reveal 121 possible pet combinations. What do you get if you mix a cat and lizard? A card. What about a rabbit and a snake? A Rake. I'm sure there well be many giggles as strange and crazy creatures are created by you littlies.

Each rhyme in the book flows easily off the tongue when read aloud. The stylised illustrations are set on bight coloured backgrounds with pages made from thick glossy cardboard with a plastic ring binding, making it durable for most toddler's fine motor-skills.

Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap Pets is not the only flip flap book created with Scheffler illustrations see Axel Scheffler's Flip Flap Safari book or read a picture book he has co-created with Julia Donaldson; The Ugly FiveThe Gruffalo Puppet Book, Zog and Room On A Broom.
