Review: Welcome to Our World

Welcome to Our World: A Celebration of Children Everywhere is a beautifully presented educational resource and introduction to the world around us. It is jam packed with fun and interesting facts about what children in other countries eat, drink, celebrate, wear to school, games they play, how they say hello and many more comparable topics.

The bright, cute and modern design instantly stole my heart, while the diverse and contemporary text was the icing on the cake. Detailed illustrations go with every fun fact and topic, some of my favourites include the breakfast foods, clothes for special occasions, and birthday celebrations. The page full of cakes made me especially hungry!

This book is interactive and fun to read aloud with children, making a wonderfully diverse learning experience. There is a world map at the the back of the book which is a great review and discussion point.

Amongst many new facts, I now know that dogs in China celebrate their birthday on the second day of the Chinese New Year and that ducks in Denmark say ‘rap rap’. I adored this book and I’ll certainly be keeping an eye out for any other titles I can find by Moira Butterfield or Harriet Lynas.
