Review: Tractor

How much do you know about tractoring? Do you have a little one obsessed with everything farming?

Then this is the book for them! Sally Sutton is a master of informative easy to read books and her latest book Tractor is no exception.

This book is all about farming and every page takes us through different things a tractor can do.

It’s a great page-turner for kids with the question and answer page set up so little ones will find the answer as to what tractor tool makes what sound.

It has strong roll-off-the-tongue rhyme and onomatopoeic emphasis with every line, and is great to read out loud.

Down on the farm, let's cut the earth. Chop, chop! Don't stop! Break that ground! Down on the farm, let's cut the earth. What makes that cut-cut-cutting sound?’

Tractor fits in well with Sutton’s other books in the Roadworks series. They are all fun, easy to read, and enjoyable by the whole family. The sound effects of every different tractor tool makes it an engaging and interactive read. It also has a peaceful feel that emulates what it means to be on a farm, but also informs about farm life and reflects how hard working farmers have to be, as well as show casing how incredible their machines are.

The big double spread pages are incredibly effective in creating a calm but realistic feeling of life in the paddocks and on the farm. The illustrations have plenty of details on every tractor tool and I learnt quite a few things myself.

It also comes with a useful diagram at the end of the book describing all the parts of the tractor. Tractor is a super enjoyable book that will suit many ages and appeal to kids who love tractors!
