Review: Claris and the Secret Ballet

What a delight it is to revisit Paris with Claris on her latest adventure: Claris and the Secret Ballet.  Megan Hess once again delivers a beautifully illustrated story filled with fashion, friendship and a little bit of Parisian magic.                                                                                                                      The story follows Claris who discovers a secret ballet studio and meets a rat who is an aspiring ballerina. Unfortunately, the rat is having some difficulties dancing and keeps falling to the floor!                                                                                                            Claris goes out of her way to help by making her new ballet shoes to help her twirl, and when that doesn’t work, she designs her a beautiful, light tutu to help her jump high in the sky. But that doesn’t work either! Claris realised that all the rat needed was someone to believe in her. Claris’ friendship and support helps the dancer’s ballet dreams come true. 

This is a sweet reminder that even the smallest words of encouragement can give someone the confidence to shine. I loved the message at the heart of this story, showing that sometimes the most powerful thing we can do for a friend is believe in them, and remind them what they are capable of.

As always, Megan Hess’ illustrations are absolutely enchanting. From the elegant ballet costumes to the glamorous streets of Paris, every page is filled with gorgeous little details that make this story such a joy to read. 

Claris and the Secret Ballet is a charming story about friendship, believing in yourself and never giving up on your dreams. The book is a beautiful addition to the Claris series and a lovely little adventure for young readers who love beautiful illustrations, stylish adventures and a little bit of magic.

After reading this book, I cant help but long to go back to Paris and immerse myself in the charming city. I look forward to seeing what Claris’ does next.
