Review: My Country

This beautiful picture book celebrates the great big land that is Australia.

It celebrates our country in a special way, one that speaks to children and engages them in their surroundings.

Following the initial declaration of "In my country, I..." we follow a child through all the exploring a child loves to do - from playing with the morning star to sleeping among the ghost gums and everything in between.

Watch carefully through the vibrant colours of these stunning illustrations by renowned artist Sally Morgan, and you'll notice the trees swaying, lightning striking and red dust blowing. Yes, you can almost see all those things moving. And you'll can see wild animals, birds and creatures from the skies to the water and even below the ground.

There is something to be seen, and loved, everywhere in this country.

With simple text on each page, children can spend their time exploring the illustrations and talk about what they see, how they imagine that particular landscape and their experiences with the environment.

This mother and son team have created a book that encourages a love of all things nature, respect for indigenous people and an understanding of why it is so important to nurture our country.

A gorgeous book that will take pride of place on many a bookshelf in My Country.
