Review: Hairy Maclary's Hat Tricks

"I remember Hairy Maclary!' I squealed. I must confess, like a bit of a loon, when I saw this book.

It makes sense, Hairy Maclary made his first appearance in 1983 and since then, the series has sold over five million copies worldwide. Incredible.

There are a whooping twelve books in the series, and a further nine are about his friends. His friends include:

Schnitzel von Krumm with a very low tum,
Bitzer Maloney all skinny and bony,
Muffin McClay like a bundle of hay,
Bottomley Potts covered in spots,
Hercules Morses big as a horse

and of course then there is Hairy Maclary from Donaldson's Dairy
In this story, it is a windy and blustery day, but Hairy Maclary is ready to play with his skimmer disc (frisbee). So he trots down to the park where he comes across a windblown wedding party where his keen catching skills just might come in handy!

A chunky little board book perfect for reading and chewing, for the younger book connoisseurs out there. A perfect introduction to reading and getting involved in a story.

Did you know Hairy Maclary is now an app?

Hairy Maclary From Donaldson's Dairy was the first Hairy Maclary book and remains Lynley Dodd's own favourite. There is an i-Pad app which is narrated by David Tennant (of Dr Who fame) and allows users to 'touch and spell' words, colour in the illustrations and interact with the story in many other ways which enhance the reader's experience without detracting from Lynley Dodd's original concept.

Brilliant.
