Both kids and adults will love poring over this impressive collection of short stories. There's everything in this book. So much so, editor Paul Collins has divided the stories into topics such as Romance, Horror, Contemporary, Humour, Historical, Adventure and Crime, making it easier for kids to select the divine morsels that might interest them the most (the book measures almost 500 pages long).
Having said that, there's not much that wouldn't interest most kids (and indeed adults). Being a chicken-scaredy-pants, me, I never dreamed I'd wade into the Crime or Horror section, but Jack Heath's Rats was one of my favourite stories (despite completing freaking me out). I also particularly enjoyed JE Fison's The Bridge and Doug MacLeod and Mitch Vane's I Am An Author, which had me in stitches.
The great thing about Trust Me Too is that the reader is both spoilt for choice and spoiled by quality. Clichés aside, there is something here for everyone. Parents will love it, teachers and librarians will love it, and kids will spend many an hour snuggled in a corner or with that ubiquitous torch-under-the-covers, delighting in great work.
Trust Me Too also features artwork and graphics, poetry and a Obernewtyn novelette by Isobelle Carmody. But most of all, it features people with a clear passion for writing and storytelling and drawing - and the desire to inspire kids with fantastical entertainment. Gee, our kids are lucky.
Authors and illustrators include Deborah Abela, Jack Heath, Sandy Fussell, Shaun Tan, Phil Kettle, Oliver Phommavanh, Hazel Edwards, Mo Johnson, Bill Condon, Di Bates, Michael Pryor, Gary Crew, Wendy Orr, Susanne Gervay, Isobelle Carmody, Michael Gerard Bauer, Margaret Clark, Mark Wilson, Gabrielle Wang, Meredith Costain, James Roy, Lorraine Marwood, Michael Wagner, Leigh Hobbs and more.
