Review: On The Day You Were Born

My daddy said, On the day you were born, I wrapped you up warm and took you for a walk to see the world.

I’m not ashamed to say that this book brought a tear to my eye.

There are many wonderful books out there about fathers, but so many of them seem to focus on how much fun Dad is, or how strong, or what he does. This book instead shows how much this father cherishes his new baby, how much he wants to be part of teaching his new child and introducing him/her to the wonders of the world.

On the Day You Were Born captures beautifully the renewed sense of wonder and potential that the arrival of a new baby stirs. The text by Margaret Wild is touching without being sickly sweet and the gorgeous illustrations by Ron Brooks capture the rural environment beautifully with the wildlife, flowers, trees and open spaces.

This book is such a wonderful celebration of family, I have added it to my ‘must buy’ list for new parents.
