Review: Path of Beasts (The Keepers #3)

Goldie, Toadspit and Bonnie sneak back into Jewel, their hometown, under the cover of darkness. They’ve survived kidnappings and attempts on their lives while away, but the dangers they faced before are nothing compared to what now awaits them.

The dastardly Fugelman has taken over Jewel and rules by propaganda. No-one in Jewel knows of his alternate identity and criminal activities. However, as suspicions arise about the Fugelman’s true character, he resorts to intimidation. Anyone suspected of not supporting his reign is imprisoned.

Can three children save an entire town from a tyrant with a giant canon? What about Goldie? She has arrived home with more than unsettling memories. Since her experience during the Big Lie, a warrior princess whispers military secrets to her, whether she likes it or not. Goldie worries that she will go mad with bloodlust if she listens to the princess’s voice, but this warrior who lived hundreds of years before might be the one to help overpower the Fugelman once and for all.

There’s plague and a slave ship to contend with, as well as the Fugelman’s army. Not only that, Goldie must walk the Beast Road with two companions who are mortal enemies if there is any chance of Jewel being saved. There’s just one hitch: no one has ever attempted to walk the Beast Road before and returned alive.

The Path of Beasts is jam packed with action, intrigue and the unexpected. Don’t be planning to get much done once you pick this book up. It is very hard to put down.
