12 Curly Questions with author Renee Bennett

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
Most people don’t know that my Dad is an amazing commercial artist whose work has gone all around the world! He has sold millions of his ‘Hunt with Hooroo’ books!

2. What is your nickname?
I don’t really have one. Little kids sometimes call me ‘Nae’.

3. What is your greatest fear?
I am petrified of big, hairy hunstmen – who seems to love visiting my house!

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
My aim is to touch hearts and change a life.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Heartfelt, relevant, versatile, soothing and with an ear for rhythm (sorry, that last one was 5 words!!)

6. What book character would you be, and why?
I have always wanted to be Jo March from Little Women. I first read that book when I was about 8 years old and totally fell in love with everything about it! Jo wanted to be a writer, just like me. She was so similar to me, I totally loved her!!

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
I was definitely born in the wrong era! I belong in the early 1900’s – put me in Downton Abbey!! I’m fascinated with their clothes and culture. The war has also been a part of history that I love reading about!

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
I think she would say – ‘Look, you made it!! You did everything you said you’d do, so you better dream some bigger dreams now!’

9. Who is your greatest influence?
That’s a hard one! So many people have influenced different areas of my life! I’d have to say it’s not a who but a what that has been my greatest influence – and that would be my faith.

10. What/who made you start writing?
Writing has been part of the fabric of who I am since I can remember. I’ve always had an immense love for reading and once I could write, I guess this spilled over. Maybe watching my dad in the publishing industry helped too.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
I don’t have one favourite word. But when I see a phrase that paints a graphic picture in my mind – that inspires me to become a better writer!

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Given my faith, I would have to say the Bible. Other than this, I could read Little Women cover to cover again and again!
