Review: My Nanna is a Ninja

Oh, but this book is fun! As soon as I saw the title, I suspected it would be special, and it is.

Author Damon Young and illustrator Peter Carnavas clearly both have a wonderfully quirky take on life, evident in every carefully chosen word and smile-inducing image.

But as well as the laugh-out-loud humour that explodes from every page, this is also a very clever reminder that grandparents come in all shapes and sizes, and that each 'version' has something special to offer.

Some nannas might dress in blue and bake apple pies, others might embrace pink-spotted tracksuits and jog with their matching pink poodle. Some might work in schools, others in gardens … And then some might dress all in black, juggle ninja stars, and slash watermelons into perfect chunks with a sword!

I developed a particular fondness for 'Ninja cat', who is clearly Ninja Nanna's faithful side kick — sometimes literally. And don't miss the endpapers either!
