Review: Night Vision

Viola can’t go out in the sun. If she does it will kill her. Even fluorescent lights can do her harm. Welcome to Viola’s world where everyone who knows her has a vampire joke to offer. With only 1000 people with this rare condition, the world is not very accommodating. So Viola’s parents invest in night vision goggles and let her roam the nearby forest at night for fun.

They don’t know that Viola sees something that puts her in even more danger than the sun. What would you do if you saw what she saw? Would you take the money and run? I was on the edge of my seat, waiting for something terrible to happen. Night Vision’s unanswered questions are still echoing in my mind, days after the book is finished.

Viola might be in her mid teens but she’s never been to a real school, so the way she thinks is a bit left of centre. Sometimes what says sounds naïve, yet at other times, she seems much older than her years. Perhaps that comes from having death constantly hovering in the background.

Night Vision: an intriguing, controversial read.
