Review: Where is Rusty?

Rusty and his friends Henrietta and Toby are off to a department store in town. It's a very busy store, so Rusty's mum says they must stick together.

As the group travels up an escalator, Rusty is distracted by the smell of something delicious. Instead of following mum, he's off on the trail of that scent--and is soon lost.

Rusty panics and runs.

Meanwhile, his poor mum is in the Lost Dogs department, in tears. She and Rusty's friends set off in search of the little white terrier.

I can still remember, as a child, turning to my mum in a department story, looking up and seeing an ominous stranger (though I'm sure she was really very nice), so reading this book brought back some strong emotion! This busy tale of lost-and-found is something most kids can relate to, and they'll love searching the delicious double-page scenes for Rusty in funny poses around the store.

A gorgeous book, with classic storytelling undertones. Translated from Dutch.
