Review: My Pop is a Pirate

In 2014, we were introduced to Nanna — she's a ninja (see review here). Now it's time to meet Pop. And he's equally unsual. He's a pirate!

Yes, Damon Young and Peter Carnavas are back to introduce us to the next member of this rather zany family …

The rhyming text is word perfect and the accompanying illustrations will have kids and adults rolling with laughter. From pops who wear red noses as they juggle rubber chickens to those who scream 'Huzzah!' as they dive in dazzling pools, grandpas of all shapes, sizes and interests are well and truly covered. But none, of course, can compare to Pirate Pop, with his parrot, hooked hand and leg of gleaming gold, as he steers his ship on sharky seas.

This is a great book to read aloud, with opportunity aplenty for sound effects and voices. Keep an eye out for the cameo appearance by Ninja Nanna and her crazy cat too!
