Review: Me First!

If you like your picture books funny and divinely illustrated and resplendent with brilliant messaging, then Me First! is one to add to the pile.

Mama Duck says it's time to go outside. It's a lovely day and there is lots of fun to be had.

The duck siblings rally excitedly, but one duck, in particular, is desperate to be ahead of the pack. 'Me first! Me first!' he cries, as they head out for the day.

This looks like a nice spot for some fishing.

'Me first! Me first!' cries our painful little friend. and off he dashes, upending everyone and everything.

Next it's bath time. Yes, guess who's first. And what about lunch? Well, maybe our pushy little friend will learn an important lesson about always being first ...

I love this take on messaging without hammering the kids over the head with morals. So well done, funny, dry, and just gorgeously illustrated, this classic tale about a character we all love to hate (yet strangely adore) will have any age smiling with delight.
