12 Curly Questions with George Ivanoff

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I love Brussels sprouts. I hate bananas.

2. What is your nickname?
I don’t have one, but I will respond to ‘Hey you!’

3. What is your greatest fear?
Being stranded on a desert island with nothing but bananas to eat.

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
It’s all over the place and a bit random. Hi!

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
Tenacious. Determined. Fun. Random. Squirrel.

6. What book character would you be, and why?
Marvin K Mooney from Dr Seuss’s Marvin K. Mooney Will You Please Go Now!, because I am just as stubborn as he is.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
I would go to the year 5050 because it’s far enough into the future to be really different from now and because I like the sound of 5050.

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
Put more fart jokes into your books.

9. Who is your greatest influence?
Eleanor Cameron – simply because her book The Wonderful Flight to the Mushroom Planet was the book that got me interested in reading. Without it, I would never have become an avid reader; and if I had not become an avid reader, I would not have developed an interest in writing; and I would now have a different career.

10. What/who made you start writing?
Doctor Who. I used to write really bad Doctor Who fan fiction as a kid.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
Antidisestablishmentarianism – because it is the longest non-coined, non-technical word in the English language, I actually know what it means AND I can pronounce it.

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The Tripods Trilogy by John Christopher. Okay, so it’s actually three books (The White Mountains, The City of Gold and Lead and The Pool of Fire)… but you can get them all in one volume.
