Review: Growing Together bookset

Taro Gomi's iconic illustrations and humour are perfect for babies and toddlers--who respond so well to his block-colour imagery and his simple, clever, and humorous text.

Adult fans of his illustrations will go gaga at this box set of hard cover books (small format) that feature four adorable titles--Growing, Imagining, Sharing and Exploring.

Each one takes kids on a gentle narrative featuring kids and their siblings and parents. In Imagining (my favourite), we meet a little girl's mum, and watch as she goes back in time to become smaller and smaller--showing kids that adults were once kids, too.

In Sharing, we meet two little sisters who work out fun ways to divvy things up (cuddles are especially nice to share, and there's not much divvying required).

In Exploring, a wee boy goes on some fabulous play adventures with Dad, and in Growing, a boy recounts his time growing up from baby to kindergartener, I particularly love the lines in this book: I slept a lot, I drank a lot, I chewed a lot, I pooed a lot.

Yep.

A gorgeous collection, Growing Together would make a beautiful new baby or christening gift.
