Review: Baby Dance

It’s not often a book can be both a gentle bedtime story and an interactive dance inspiring activity, but that’s exactly what Baby Dance is.

This magical board book follows four Australian baby animals (including a rather cheeky cockatoo) as they dance and play the day away. Using simple language and delightful rhyme, Australian author Katrina Germein has created a fun, rhythmical story that is a joy to read and alluring to little ears.

Its soothing beat and sleepy conclusion make it a perfect bedtime book choice. But at the same time, the actions and movements on every page (clapping, rolling, bopping) provide inspiration for kids to get up and move along with the baby animals.

The soft, curvy illustrations by Doris Chang are just adorable, with earthy pastel browns, yellows and greys. Lots of white space lets the characters shine as they spin and groove across the pages, and the cheeky cockatoo is sure to give you a giggle.

Baby Dance is a beautiful and versatile board book. It will appeal to little ears ready for bed as well as little bodies ready to shake and move.
