Review: Say Goodnight

This bedtime book is sweet, simple and straightforward. I'm happy to report that both of my kids have loved it at one time or another.

In fact, I would go so far as to say this is the current favourite of my 15-month-old. He even lets me read it to him two or three times in a row!

As always, author/illustrator Helen Oxenbury's illustrations are luscious and lively. The text is simple, rhythmic and effective.

A big plus for me is that Oxenbury illustrates babies from all different cultural backgrounds, and that is something that is not as common as it should be in children's picture books.

Additionally, the babies' expressions are so sweet and realistic that they captivate my sons. This is powerful when you are trying to hook your new little human into the world of books before they fully understand what is going on around them.

I recommend this as a bedtime book for very young ones, and it's also a perfect gift for someone who isn't sure which book to choose for a new bub.
