Review: The Wonderful Whisper

A Whisper is whisked through the dark on a shooting star, past the moon and sun, through clouds and across the sea, with each bestowing a gift upon the Wonderful Whisper as it passes them.

A Spirit that will 'shine like all the stars' from the Shooting Star. A Smile 'as gentle as mine' from the moon. Eyes 'as bright as me' from the sun. Touch 'as soft as ours' from the clouds. And a Laugh 'as sparkling as the waves' from the ocean.

As each glorious gift is given to the Wonderful Whisper, it begins to take shape and form in the illustrations.

When the Wonderful Whisper arrives on the Earth, word spreads to all the animals and they decided that they must see this Wonderful Whisper with all its incredible gifts, so they fly, scurry, lope and run to meet it:

'Where is it? What is it? Who is it' they cried.

It is on the last page, with all the animals staring straight up through the pages to the reader that we discover that the Wonderful Whisper is in fact YOU!

With absolutely beautiful lyrical text that sweeps the reader along, the journey of the Wonderful Whisper is a glorious welcoming story that seamlessly connects a child to the largeness of the universe, to the beginnings of who they are and the qualities that make them so special.

The illustrations by Anna Pignataro are soft, flowing and welcoming, with beautiful contrast between the sweeping openness of the heavens and the sea, and the busy almost frantic activity of the animals as they race to see the Wonderful Whisper.

This would make a perfect gift to welcome a new baby, that could be read and loved across many birthdays to come.
