Review: William Wenton and the Luridium Thief

William is in hiding. No-one can crack codes like he can but his secret skill must remain hidden. When the Impossible Puzzle comes to the museum, can he resist the urge to sneak in and try to solve it? What will happen if he is found out?

This is the first in a fantastic new middle grade series that will have kids hooked! Who can resist a code breaking boy genius on the run, being chased by killer robots whilst he tries to solve the mystery of his grandfather’s disappearance?

This is a fast paced, action-packed page turner of a story that you will not want to put down. It is filled with mind-blowing technology, enthralling cryptology, cybernetic creatures and killer robots!

When William is captured and taken to the Institute for Post Human Research, he realises he has a lot to learn about himself and his past. What is this place? Why does it exist? And, most importantly, who is he, really? William is going to need to use all his skills to answer these questions and find his grandfather.

William is a likable character that kids will relate to. Despite his extraordinary talents, he is portrayed as an ordinary kid just trying to figure out who he is. He goes through all the usual angst of trying to make friends, figuring out who to trust and coming to know and accept himself.

This will be suitable for some more advanced younger readers as well. There are a couple of slightly violent scenes (particularly towards the end) which may upset more sensitive younger readers but I certainly have no hesitation in giving this to my nine-year-old (I think he’s going to love it!).

This has got the making of a very successful series. Now William understands and accepts who he is, he is only going to grow stronger and develop his amazing code breaking skills even further. I can’t wait to read his next adventure!
