12 Curly Questions with author John Flanagan

1. Tell us something hardly anyone knows about you.
I once thought I was being chased by the banshee in Ireland. It turned out to be a sparrow in the hedge beside me.

2. What is your nickname?
Flano.

3. What is your greatest fear?
To be chased by the banshee in Ireland - or anywhere else. I'm also afraid of sparrows these days.

4. Describe your writing style in ten words.
Fast paced, vivid, amusing, exciting, involving, likeable characters.

5. Tell us five positive words that describe you as a writer.
I always deliver on time.

6. What book character would you be, and why?
I don't want to be a character. I prefer to be the writer and control the characters' actions.

7. If you could time travel, what year would you go to and why?
Actually, I'm probably having the happiest time of my life right now, so I don't think I'd want to go back anywhere

8. What would your ten-year-old self say to you now?
I can't believe you've finally made it.

9. Who is your greatest influence?
My sister Joan.

10. What/who made you start writing?
The desire to tell my own stories.

11. What is your favourite word and why?
Sizzling. It makes me think of sausages and I like sausages. My least favourite word, although you didn't ask, is banshee.

12. If you could only read one book for the rest of your life, what would it be?
The longest one I could find.
