Review: ABC Mindful Me

Christiane Engle has previously created the beautiful board book ABC Yoga, now we can share her new book ABC Mindful Me. This concept book will help toddlers learn their alphabet while being introduced to mindfulness, through rhyme and brightly coloured illustrations.

What is mindfulness? Mindfulness is a practice of paying attention to the present moment. Mindfulness helps calms the mind and the body allowing the person to be aware of their body, emotions and environment.

Using the alphabet with rhymes about mindfulness children will discover awareness, breathe, dreams, feelings, meditation and relaxation. These aspects of mindfulness can open toddlers to concentration, mental wellness and management of their emotions.

Other aspects of mindfulness explored in ABC Mindful Me are compassion, giving and kindness. These rhymes give examples of how toddlers can be mindful of others and what they can do to help others.

The rhymes also explore being mindful about the world and our environment through the words; thankfulness, universe, vegetables and walk.

Once the alphabet has reached the end and the word zen, Engel has included several activities to help young children focus on understanding their emotions, exploring nature and showing thankfulness. I especially love the creation of emotion rocks that can help children and even adults articulate their feelings.
