Review: 36 Questions that Changed My Mind About You

I love listening to strangers meet. Watching them try to weedle information out of each other but keep their own guard up fascinates me.

So 36 Questions that Changed My Mind About You had me from the first page.

Apart from cracking dialogue in which every word is loaded, each character is funny, complex and layered. Then there's the mystery of human motivation.

Hildy opts in to this university experiment to see if the simple act of answering questions can draw her into a  relationship. After her dismal failures, what has she got to lose?

Paul has no clue about aim of the study. He does it for the money.

So begins their high stakes game of cat and mouse.

If you like Rom Coms where opposites attract or impossible odds are stacked against two people connecting, then 36 Things is for you.

But be warned. Getting involved this closely with anyone is heart rending. I felt Hildy's vulnerability, recognised Paul's rock solid defences and understood completely what both had to lose.

My problem was I didn't know whether they had it in them to find a happy beginning together.

So the pages sped.

That's why I can't wait for Vicki Grant's next art of narrative through dialogue. It's not only irresistible, it's addictive.
