Review: Lottie Perkins Movie Star (Book 1) and Ballerina (Book 2)

Lottie Perkins is an exceptional child. She’s good at everything, and she always finds a way to succeed at whatever she sets her mind to.

The bully girl at school likes to laugh at her ideas, but Lottie has a very best friend called Sam Bell, and Sam always believes in her, so who needs anyone else!

This fabulous new junior fiction series by the talented Katrina Nannestad is awesomely addictive.

In each fun and fast-paced story, Lottie declares she will become something wonderful and then sets out on a journey to achieve her goal.

In Movie Star, Lottie Perkins decides to become an actress. With the help of her best friend Sam, they start writing, rehearsing and filming.

No one believes she can do it, but when Lottie accidentally stumbles across an actual movie set, and the director loves her work, she really does make it to the movies.

In Ballerina, Lottie Perkins decides to be a Ballerina, and as fate would have it, a local dance company is putting on a performance of Swan Lake.

When Lottie is cast as a tree, she is not so sure her dreams are coming true, but when the head swan can’t dance in the show, Lottie steps in and becomes the Ballerina she’s determined to be.

These books are fantastic. They are short with big text and simple language, and they are so fun and funny.

Young girls are going to love these books. Lottie is a bold little protagonist. She’s independent and sassy and she stands up for herself — a great role model.

Generously scattered with gorgeous black and white illustrations by Makoto Koji, the books are perfect for kids just starting to read. They are also great for kids not quite at reading stage but interested in longer stories.

And in addition to the great read, each book also comes with stickers (who doesn’t like stickers?) of a range of outfits related to the story. Book one comes with a special sticker book to add the stickers too, so readers can dress their own Lottie Perkins.

I highly recommend this brilliant new series for junior readers aged six to nine. They are fun, funny, fast-paced and fantastic!
