Review: Bubbay's Desert Adventure

Bubbay lives in the Australian desert with his goats.

The stars are his friends, and every night he watches the sky and falls asleep with the stars shining above him.

One night, Bubbay wishes upon the brightest star, and the star comes down to greet him.

It tells Bubbay that if he can find five special things, the star will bring him a surprise.

So, Bubbay sets out to find the five things the star challenges him to find, guided by the spirit of grandma Gubarlee and helped by the animals of the desert. But one of the five things is a shell, and Bubbay lives in the desert. How will he find a shell in the middle of the desert?

Bubbay’s Desert Adventure is a beautiful quest story about love and family. Written by Josie Wowolla Boyle, a Wonghi woman from Western Australia, it’s a story of culture and tradition, being brave and being rewarded for good deeds.

Fern Martins, a Ngarabul woman from New South Wales, brings joy to the pages with her beautiful illustrations. Colour extends to the corners of every page, and intricate details provide so much for readers to explore and find.

Bubbay’s Desert Adventure is a beautiful story of adventure, hope and wonder.
