Review: Lion Needs a Haircut

Every parent can relate to this heart-warming picture book about getting your first haircut.

Children either love or hate going to get their haircut and Little lion is no exception. There is nothing wrong with his mane, it is perfectly fine.

Little lion knows lions should not be scared of anything or anyone. But the thought of getting his mane cut or even trimmed makes him feel anxious and scared.

What will he look like, will he even still look like a fierce lion cub?

Little lion and his father debate his need for a haircut. His father tries every approach to convince his son the visit to the barbers is nothing to worry about. Running out of ideas, he realises there must be another way to make this work. That is until Little lion makes the statement he just wants to look like Dad, with his mane all scruffy and scary.

Now the tables are turned, who will win this battle of wills. Little lion thinks he has won the argument as he knows his father does not believe his mane needs a trim. But will his father convince Little lion to get a haircut after all?

Author and illustrator Hyewon Yum has captured this battle of wills that every parent experiences whether it is over haircuts, brushing their teeth or going to bed. The illustrations show every nuance of emotion and tactic that is employed, which will leave the reader smiling and blessed with ideas.
