Again! said Rabbit is book number three in Marjoke Henrichs’ series exploring first experiences and emotions for young children.
Rabbit, with his Mum and Dad, have arrived at the beach for a day of fun and relaxation. There is sandcastle building, football, and kite flying. ‘Again!’ Rabbit demands after each activity until his exhausted parents suggest a swim.
When the sun disappears behind a cloud and Rabbit is dumped by a big wave, it feels like the fun is over.
But, the sun comes out and Mum has a warm snuggly towel and a favourite snack, and soon Rabbit is ready to enjoy the day again.
Young children will be able to relate to Rabbit’s experiences of having fun at the beach, and also the shock of being dumped by a wave and losing their confidence in the waves for a while.
The bright and busy illustrations in Again! said Rabbit are full of movement and energy, and Marjoke can convey a myriad of emotions through just a few simple lines. The text has amusing sections of repetition that perfectly mirror the way young children speak.
This book will feel very familiar to parents and carers who have ever taken a little one to the beach, or on any kind of adventure. The excitement, the energy, and the highs and lows of children’s emotions as things go right, and also very wrong.
When it is time to pack up and leave, despite the ups and downs of the day, the Rabbit family decides,
‘Let’s do it all AGAIN tomorrow!’
