Review: Christmas is Coming!

You may be familiar with the Little Mates series of small format picture books by Susannah McFarlane, featuring aliterated animal tales for every letter of the alphabet.

Well, here is the festive version! Once again aliterated (to the letter C), we meet Connor the Cockatoo and Chloe from Crystal Creek as they become supremely excited about the upcoming Christmas season.

Chloe the wombat gets creative crafting colourful cards to send to cousins in Cairns, Castlemaine and Coolangatta. They also compose a Santa list, cook some delicious Christmas cakes in the canteen and - of course - sort out the decoration of the Christmas tree.

Then D-Day arrives, and the critters of Crystal Creek have a truly cracking Christmas day together, but crikey - it's hot!

These adorable, very Australian tales are great fun to read - anyone who thinks aliteration doesn't work is kidding themselves. When a parent repeat reads a favourite book, ad infinitum, trust me when I say text like this makes such a 'task' a pleasure!

Lachlan Creagh's adorable illustrations make for a truly sweet and utterly-kid friendly series of books that are well worth collecting.
