Tania's Picks: Alpha Block

Heart-racing. I know you know what I mean. You see a book, you pick it up--and your heart races.

That's what happened when I took Alpha Block (and yes, it is almost literally a block, it's so thick) in hand.

My heart raced because I saw Christopher Franceschelli's name (see our review of Oliver here) but also because the imagery and size and format of this book is so heart-raceable. And ALSO, because when I opened it, great things happened.

A page in the shape of an A popped open. And then a B and a C. And so on it went, delighting my eyes at every page turn. I wanted to pack a suitcase and move in. What a joy of a book.

I love the multi-dimensions in this book, the simplicity, the vivid colour, the weight of the book and the childlike joy. Strong, sturdy board pages will make it long-lasting, and its smaller size will fit neatly into keen little hands.

Get set for heart palpitations! (Both you and child.)
