At the end of Wednesdays in the Tower (KBR review), the magical castle had transported Celie, her brother Rolf and sister Lilah, her friends Lulath and Pogue, and her pet griffin Rufus into the past. Pogue is injured and the others are confused. Where (and when) are they and how do they get back home to their own time?
To return home they need to find a missing piece to the Eye of the Castle and defeat an evil wizard who wants the castle and the secret of training the griffins for himself. Celie, Rolf, Lilah, Lulath and Pogue need to work together and enlist the help of the magnificent Royal Griffins if they want to return safely to their family and friends in the future.
Thursdays with the Crown continues the wonderful Castle Glower junior fiction fantasy series. A fantastic combination of exciting adventure and interesting characters, this novel draws readers along on with Celie, her siblings and her friends as they try to overcome the challenges preventing them from returning to their own time. The blend of quirky characters and fantasy setting creates a very engaging story sure to stir the imaginations of young readers.
I’m a big fan of the Castle Glower books and love to recommend them to friends with children looking for engaging adventure stories. Celie is a strong, independent character who is daring, loyal, courageous and just a little bit impulsive. These humorous and exciting stories also remind readers about the value of loyalty to family and friends, and the importance of finding the balance between being self-confident and acknowledging that everyone needs help occasionally.
I’m always pleased by the arrival of a new Castle Glower book and will be looking forward to seeing this series continue in the future.
