Review: Stormy Night

Bear is in bed but he can’t get to sleep. It’s stormy outside and he is frightened by the sound of the wind and rain. He comforts his toy bunny, Floppy, and reassures him that everything is okay, which helps Bear to feel better too. When the thunder comes, Bear is worried again, but when Mama and Papa bear come into the room, Bear is so busy comforting them, he forgets his fears.

A loud crash of thunder makes Bear shut his eyes tight, but Mama and Papa Bear and Floppy have learned from Bear and they comfort him until the storm passes. Finally, everyone can get to sleep, even the storm!

A lovely book about dealing with fear, especially the anxiety caused by a loud, windy storm, Stormy Night features the familiar characters of Bear and Floppy from author/illustrator Salina Yoon’s Found (KBR review).

Gorgeous, bright illustrations and a simple storyline will appeal to young readers who might just find that some of the things that comfort Bear, such as cuddles, reading a book and hugging a toy, also work for them when they are feeling a little worried or upset.
