Review: Dinosaur Disco

Who doesn’t love a little bit of fun at the disco on a Saturday night? Why should dinosaurs be any different?

This fun rhyming picture book  invites dinosaur-loving kids to get up and move with their favourite prehistoric animals. Will they crump with the Corythosaurus, salsa with the Styracosaurus or moonwalk with a Maiasaura? And will they guess which dinosaur’s late arrival will have the others ducking for cover?

Filled with vibrant illustrations by Daron Parton in bright, bold colours, Dinosaur Disco invites kids to get up and dance. I attended the launch of this picture book and the audience of children were leaning forward in anticipation as the story was being read aloud and then couldn’t wait to hit the dance floor to try out some of their own moves.

Dinosaur fans will love the Dino Facts included at the end of the book and tongue-tied parents will be grateful for the pronunciation guide for each of the dinosaurs mentioned. (Why is it children always seem to be able to get their tongues around the dinosaur names better than we can?).

Lots of fun to read aloud, Dinosaur Disco is another wonderful book by versatile author Deborah Kelly, whose recent picture books include the engaging book for toddlers and preschoolers The Bouncing Ball and the nostalgic Jam for Nana.
