Reintroducing - Leanne Barrett

Leanne Barrett has been popping into Kids' Book Review for a number of years now since 2012, delighting us with her pithy reviews and passion for encouraging kids to read. After a short hiatus, we are absolutely thrilled to welcome her back into the KBR fold. Here's a little bit about Leanne.

Leanne is an avid reader, art lover, writer and mother to a university student. She developed a passion for picture books - especially illustrations - during her university years. She can often be found in the bookshop browsing the picture book section. When choosing books she is always looking for something new or different. She loves to attend book launches and supporting local writers and illustrators. Promotion of literature is very important to Leanne and she supports the idea of free voluntary reading.

Leanne has a BEd (Primary School) and a MEd (Teacher Librarianship). Leanne has reviewed books for KBR (2012) and Reading Time. She has been a stay-at-home mum, a relief primary school teacher, Teacher Librarian, Landcare volunteer and spent 5 years volunteering for The Children’s Book Council of Australia ACT Branch holding the positions of Author/Illustrator Visits Coordinator and President.

She is a member of the Australian Library and Information Association, ACT Writers Centre and the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators. Leanne is also a supporter of the National Centre for Australian Children’s Literature and Buk bilong Pikinini.
Leanne is currently taking 12 months off work and volunteering to explore her writing and art.
