Review: Hello To You, Moon

At first glance, it's a sweet and simple concept: a counting and animal book for little ones. But delve deeper into this book and you'll find a lavish display of language and imagery that's pure delight.

Here, we meet an array of animals, from bullfrogs and bears to monkeys and meerkats. Not all of them are nocturnal, but they all revel in the beauty of the moon.

Sally Morgan's alluring verse is rich with repetition and descriptive words that almost drip from the tongue as you read it out loud.

The text is beautifully paired with the bold graphic-design aesthetic of artist and illustrator duo Sonny & Biddy. The couple's warm and vivid palette evokes the glow of a full moon on the world below, while the textured illustrations have a celestial appeal.

This is sure to become a bedtime favourite for younger children who will love poring over the pages to count the animals and search for moon.
