Review: Build the Dragon

Need a crafty gift for a young dragon-lover? Build the Dragon is exactly what you’re looking for!

A book and craft in one, Build the Dragon comes with all the pieces you need to build a model dragon. And it moves!

The pieces come on thick and sturdy cardboard, and they’re really easy to press out, which means no broken pieces before you even begin.

The only parts not made with thick cardboard are the wings, which are made of a thinner cardboard and paper, but the kit comes with extras of all these more fragile pieces, just in case anything gets torn during construction or play.

There are 21 steps in the instructions, so it’s not super complicated, and all the pieces are numbered, making everything easy to figure out.

PLUS all the pieces slot together, so you don’t even need scissors or glue to complete the model. In fact, absolutely everything you need is included in the kit.

The building process can be a little fiddly, and some pieces need to be aligned properly or the next piece won’t fit, so adults might need to help their dragon-enthusiasts. But it’s an easy to follow process and would make a lovely activity to do together with the kids.

And to add to the ‘wow’ factor, part of the construction includes a little wind up motor, so at the end, your finished dragon-friend can flap his paper wings.

Build the Dragon also comes with a fun and fascinating 32-page book about dragon myths and legends. The kids will love learning about dragon habitats, appearances, lairs and powers, and a wide range of dragons from different cultures and legends are included.

The illustrations are colourful and detailed, with lots of special notes to point out things of interest to the reader.

With a durable hardback cover, the kit and book are well protected. And I loved that the box to keep your pieces, instructions and spare parts in is actually connected to the book, so nothing can get lost.

A fabulous book and dragon-building activity for all dragon fans, Build the Dragon makes a fantastic gift or special activity for a rainy day.
