Review: Billie's Book

This book is a guide for children, full of beautiful messages, on how to live their life in an honourable and valuable way.

The principles include equality in all forms, and acceptance and respect for differences.

It addresses family unity and the importance of helping and sharing tasks around the home in creating harmony and love.

It goes into the values and virtues that improve life - yours and others’, what defines being good, spreading kindness, and accepting people’s choices.

It covers caring for the environment, being kind to animals and people, showing respect to everyone, taking only what you need, being considerate of others, and making your life journey a worthwhile one. It accents the fact that everyone is special and deserving of respect and kindness.

It has allocated several pages to bulling and not making fun of people about what they wear, believe, or don’t believe, regardless of gender and partner choices.

The illustrations visually reinforce the text beautifully, as many children remember pictures more than words. The colours are strong and lively and the images realistic.
I confess I wasn’t sure about this book due to the words being good used so frequently. But I realized they are the perfect choice for teaching a child about good and bad behaviour, habits and intentions.

This book is unique in what it offers to learning and life values. I don’t know of another like it, but I love the idea that someone has created a valuable reference for children to learn all the above from. More books such as this should be available to the very young, as it is my belief that what is learnt in early childhood is never forgotten.
