Review: My First Pop-Up Dinosaurs

My First Pop-Up Dinosaurs is a beautiful and quite robust book for dinosaur-lovers, created by Owen Davey.

Pop-up books seem to have a real attraction for young and old, and this is a perfect example, with one pop-up per double-page spread.

Some pop-ups extend a long dinosaur neck, others open a roaring mouth, or flap wings.

There's simplicity in the design and content, which makes it appealing. Pages have lots of white space around the dinosaurs, making them clearly the feature.

And the colours are, rather than bold and bright, mostly toned-down blues, greens and browns -- something that seems to suit the prehistoric animal kingdom.

There are fifteen dinosaurs in all, from the familiar to the less familiar. Each image is accompanied by the dinosaur's name, and how it is pronounced.

Because of its simplicity, My First Pop-Up Dinosaurs is also a good introduction to how pop-ups work, to encourage young readers to be careful in how they turn pages, and examine the paper as it moves.

My First Pop-Up Dinosaurs would be a wonderful gift and is highly recommended.
